Questions answered

Is there a full single-player campaign in Halloween: The Game?
Yes. The story mode retells Michael Myers' 1978 escape from Smith's Grove Sanitarium and his return to Haddonfield as a sequence of playable chapters. This page walks through that chapter order step by step; for a confirmed-versus-speculative overview of the mode, see the [single-player story mode guide](/guides/single-player-story-mode/).
Who do you play as in the campaign walkthrough?
The chapters shown in this walkthrough put you in the role of Michael Myers, completing kill objectives on named special targets while the game teaches Shoving, Melee Combat, Stalking, Killer Sense, and Shape Jump through on-screen pop-ups.
Do I have to kill every special target to finish a chapter?
Each chapter lists one or more primary kill targets, and objectives such as Find and Kill Nearby Special Targets gate progression. Optional markers like Fully Stalk a target or Reach Bloodthirst Level 3 are bonus challenges that grant experience but are not always required to advance.
How long is the Halloween: The Game story campaign?
The full no-commentary playthrough used for this walkthrough runs just under two hours from the Smith's Grove prologue to the cornfield escape, so expect a roughly feature-length single sitting.

How this campaign walkthrough works

This page is a step-by-step, screenshot-per-stage breakdown of the Halloween: The Game single-player story campaign — the concrete chapter order, on-screen objectives, tutorials, and mechanics as they actually appear on screen. It is deliberately different from the single-player story mode overview, which only separates officially confirmed features from speculation. Read that overview first if you want the high-level picture; come back here when you want to know what happens in each chapter and how to progress through it.

Every stage below links back to the exact second of the source playthrough so you can verify the moment yourself.

Chapter 1 — Escaping Smith’s Grove Sanitarium

The story opens on October 30th, 1978 at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, where Dr. Loomis has kept Michael Myers locked up for fifteen years. A storm rolls in, orderlies try to herd patients inside, and Michael breaks free — triggering a CODE GREEN lockdown.

You take control of Michael in a patient gown. The opening objective is FIND A WAY TO THE LOWER GATE, and the game immediately teaches you the Shoving mechanic (Use B to trigger a shove that stumbles your targets away from you), which doubles as a way to block incoming attacks. Work down the grounds past the orderlies and reach the back of the station wagon to end the prologue.

This chapter also carries its own numbered challenge set — terrify an orderly, bare-handed executions, the telephone-pole kill, and a full no-alert run — broken out separately on the Prologue challenges explained page.

Chapter 2 — The Rabbit in Red

Michael steals the station wagon, finds a matchbook left in the car, and heads for the Rabbit in Red lounge. The objective becomes ENTER THE RABBIT IN RED, and here the game layers in the Melee Combat tutorial: how to grab, how to place your hands on a weapon, and how to finish a target in close quarters.

Clear the patrons inside to complete the set-piece. After the slaughter, the narration explains that Michael can now “move through the world unseen” — setting up the road home to Haddonfield.

▶ Watch this step: 10:00 — entering the Rabbit in Red and Melee Combat

Chapter 3 — Becoming the Shape at the hardware store

Once Michael is back in Haddonfield, he needs tools for the work ahead. The campaign sends him into a hardware store, where a lone clerk is working late. This chapter introduces the special-target structure: a primary kill goal (KILL ERIC) paired with an optional challenge (OPTIONAL - FULLY STALK ERIC).

Stalking a target before killing it feeds the experience and progression loop described in the progression and customization guide.

Chapter 4 — Learning Killer Sense and Shape Jump

Straight after the store, the game teaches Michael’s two signature traversal-and-detection tools. A Shape Jump Indicator pop-up explains that entering Shape Jump reveals yellow beams of light marking the world locations of the current primary kill targets. The active objective shifts to FIND AND KILL 2 NEARBY SPECIAL TARGETS, with undiscovered targets listed beneath.

Chapter 5 — Breaking into houses and door-down entries

With special targets marked, Michael hunts them through Haddonfield’s houses. The HUD’s Killer Sense shows victims as glowing silhouettes through walls, and locked or blocked doors are handled with a door-down action — Michael shoulder-charges the door off its frame to keep pursuit going.

This is the core combat-and-search rhythm of the middle campaign: locate a marked house, breach it, and eliminate the target inside. The residential blocks map onto the areas covered in the East Haddonfield and Haddonfield Town Center map briefings.

▶ Watch this step: 43:20 — door-down breach during a special-target hunt

Chapter 6 — Executing named special targets

Mid-campaign chapters escalate to named residents. When Michael grabs and kills a target, the screen confirms it — for example GLORIA NAVARRO KILLED — and rolls a stack of experience reasons on the left: Context Execution, Townsfolk Grab Tier 1, Grabbed Resident, Surprise, Stalk. The next objective (KILL MARCOS) then appears.

Grabbing from behind (Surprise) and stalking to a higher tier before the kill multiply these rewards. For the wider roster of who you can hunt, see the Heroes of Haddonfield civilian roster.

▶ Watch this step: 63:20 — grabbing and executing a named target

Chapter 7 — The Wallace House

Later chapters move Michael between specific landmark homes. Here the objective is GO TO THE WALLACE HOUSE with an OPTIONAL - EXPLORE THE AREA goal, and interior doors expose the Lock Door / Open interactions you use to control sightlines and set up ambushes.

Locking doors behind you keeps panicked residents from fleeing a room the way you want — a small mechanic that matters a lot once the police start arriving.

▶ Watch this step: 76:40 — entering the Wallace House

Chapter 8 — Carried executions and priority targets

The final residential chapters introduce priority targets and carried executions: after subduing a high-value victim, Michael can pick the body up and move it before finishing the kill, banked as Context Execution / Grabbed Priority Target experience.

Weapons you pick up along the way — the knives, tools, and blunt objects used in these executions — are catalogued in the all items and weapons guide.

▶ Watch this step: 83:20 — carried execution on a priority target

Chapter 9 — The finale: escaping Haddonfield

The campaign closes by turning the tables. After Dr. Loomis empties his weapon into Michael and watches him fall from a balcony — only for the mask to be left behind and the man to vanish — the police seal the town: “Close all the roads in and out of town. Suspect is armed and dangerous.” Your objective becomes FIND A WAY TO ESCAPE HADDONFIELD with the route ESCAPE THROUGH THE CORNFIELD, alongside an optional REACH BLOODTHIRST LEVEL 3 goal, as you fight through responding officers.

Michael Myers moving along a suburban pavement toward a boundary wall as the Find a Way to Escape Haddonfield and Escape Through the Cornfield objectives plus a Reach Bloodthirst Level 3 optional line appear on the left

Breaking the cordon ends the story on Loomis’s line that Haddonfield “has been marked, scarred, shaken to its core” — and that Michael Myers “still waits.” If you want the exit-route mechanics in the multiplayer context, cross-reference the how to escape guide.

▶ Watch this step: 96:40 — escaping Haddonfield through the cornfield
