How do you start a match and pick your first target as Michael Myers?

This guide covers live killer gameplay; for Michael’s story role and ability lore, see the Michael Myers profile. At spawn the top-left HUD lists three randomized Special Targets under “Kill All The Residents.” The player advises reaching one immediately, since heroes are usually already moving to protect those marked residents.

Every tip below comes from a single early-access playthrough of the killer side, so treat exact numbers as observed examples rather than fixed patch values. The asymmetric 1v4 structure behind these tips is explained in the multiplayer overview.

How do Shape Jump and the gold sky beams find targets?

Michael’s Shape Jump cooldown is extremely short at the start of a match, and the player notes you can usually be moving again in under twenty seconds. Once it’s ready, enter Shape Jump and look toward the sky: giant gold beams appear and point toward several of your targets. Pick a beam, travel unseen, and commit to that resident.

What abilities should you equip in Michael’s loadout?

Michael pairs two traits with three special abilities, so you build The Shape around your style. It names Shape Jump and Killer Sense as the traits, and lists Detection Pulse, Blackout, Reality Tear, Shadow Strike and Evil Presence to mix in. Shadow Strike throws shadow knives, while Evil Presence boosts Michael and disrupts nearby heroes.

AbilityShadow StrikeThrows shadow knives at range
AbilityEvil PresenceBoosts Michael while disrupting nearby heroes
AbilityDetection PulseListed among Michael’s equippable special abilities
AbilityBlackoutListed among Michael’s equippable special abilities
AbilityReality TearNamed by the player as an available ability

Only three special abilities fit at once, so the player’s advice is to test combinations that match how you like to hunt. Which abilities unlock first is governed by the progression and customization system, not by this loadout screen.

Why is stalking better than rushing into a kill?

The player’s core advice is patience: when you reach a target, don’t immediately rush in swinging. Find a window and stalk. Stalking feeds the Blood Thirst meter, and the stronger that meter grows, the more dangerous Michael becomes as the match goes on. Stalking a victim also improves your grab and unlocks environmental kills, and bigger kills award more experience.

The on-screen rewards captured in this run show how stalking compounds:

Observed reward (this playthrough)What it reflects
Stalk / Hold Stalk Tier 1–3Sustained stalking builds escalating stalk tiers
Wound Target (+150 XP)Damaging a target you have been stalking
Weapon Execution (+450 XP)Converting a grab into a finished kill

How do you break into a house and cut its power?

Eventually a hero locks themselves inside. The simplest answer is punching through the door, which the player found faster than heavy strikes with most one-handed weapons. A two-handed weapon is stronger: with the axe, they broke most doors in just two heavy swings. Outside, hit the Flip Switch prompt or a wall box to kill a room’s lights.

Break-in methodRequirementPlayer’s note

Two-handed swing (axe)Pick up a two-handed weaponBroke most doors in about two heavy swings
Flip Switch / wall boxInteract on or by the houseKills the room’s lights (Destroyed Door / Lights Out XP)

The player also describes cutting a home’s phone lines as a quieter utility, reasoning that it may slow the heroes’ ability to call the police without them immediately noticing. This was narrated but not clearly shown on screen, so it is listed as an observation, not a confirmed mechanic.

The flip side of this section is the survivor view: the escape guide explains how Civilians restore power and hold houses, which is exactly the behavior you are trying to disrupt. Layout varies by map, so learn the Haddonfield Town Center and East Haddonfield blocks to predict where locked doors and breaker boxes appear.

Which weapons and attack types land best as the Killer?

Michael has light and heavy attacks. With most one-handed weapons, the player found spamming light attacks faster and easier to land, without committing to the slow heavy animation. Two-handed weapons reverse that: heavy attacks can destroy NPCs and seriously hurt heroes in one hit. Throwing a weapon also knocks a hero down, buying time to close into a grab.

Weapon typeBest attackWhy
One-handed (kitchen knife, etc.)Light attacksFaster, easier to land, no slow heavy wind-up
Two-handed (axe)Heavy attacksDevastating; can hurt heroes in one hit, wreck NPCs
Thrown weaponThrowKnocks a hero down, sets up a grab

Source: weapon select bar at 3:42. The player calls the axe the strongest weapon they found, useful for both door-breaking and heavy hits. Two-handed heavies are described as “a little awkward,” so timing matters.

How do you finish a grab before your victim escapes?

A grab does not automatically mean you have secured the kill. Once Michael grabs somebody, quick-action button prompts appear on screen and you must land them; miss the inputs and your victim gets another chance to escape. The player’s warning is simple: don’t celebrate the grab, watch the prompts, and finish the job to convert it into an execution.

Survivors are taught to resist these grabs in the escape guide, and the roster in Heroes of Haddonfield lists the people you are hunting. Expect a struggle animation, not a free kill.
